Prediction
NOR, the bronze medalist at the 1999 Worlds, should be even with ITA with 500 meters to
go. ITA backed way off in its heat in the last 500. We believe ITA will be right with NOR
to the finish line, battling for the best lane assignments in the FA final. However,
expect NOR to beat ITA by less than a length, even though ITA will probably lead NOR and
the other crews over the first 1000 meters. That leaves a close race between POL and FRA
for the 3rd qualifying spot in the FA final. FRA will be moving up on POL in the last 500
meters, but to beat POL and be 3rd, FRA must stay closer to POL in the 2nd 500 meter
interval.
