The golden Great Britain coxless four and Steve Redgrave erased any doubt that they
are not about to yield to anyone in their quest for the gold medal, Steve's 5th in 5
successive Olympics, an Olympic record. GBR took an early lead over 1999 World silver
medalists from AUS, held that lead for the middle 1000 meters, and added another three
quarters of a length at the end. This certainly answers any doubts or questions raised by
GBR's 4th place finish in the Lucerne World Cup in July after a string of unbeaten races
extending back almost beyond memory. An colorful instant replay of this race is available.
AUS stopped GBR's move only in the 2nd 500 meter interval, as indicated by AUS turning
gold in that interval on the replay.LANE CREW RELATIVE POSITIONS ELAPSED SPLIT
