Men's Quadruple Sculls (M4X)

Pre-Race Analysis

Preliminary Heats

Top 3 to semi-finals. Others to repechage.

Heat 1

CUB (Lane 1), POL, GER, NED, CHN (Lane 5)

GER is the 1999 World Champion and favored to win this heat. NED was 4th at the 1999 Worlds, and placed well this summer at World Cup with a 3rd at Munich and a 2nd in Lucerne. NED and CHN (8th at Worlds) should advance with GER to the semi-finals.

Heat 2

UKR (Lane 1), AUT, AUS, FRA (Lane 4)

UKR, the 1999 silver medalist at Worlds, AUS, the Worlds bronze medalist, and AUT, 5th at Worlds, should all advance to the semi-finals in that order.

Heat 3

SUI (Lane 1), ITA, USA, BEL (Lane 4)

ITA has been the hottest quad this year at World Cup races. ITA finished 2nd in Vienna and 1st in Lucerne, beating GER, UKR and AUS in the process. SUI and the USA should join ITA in qualifying for the semi-finals. SUI was 6th at the 1999 Worlds and the USA has a promising new combination that did well in this summer's World Cup racing.
