Pre-Olympic Summary

August 13, 2000 -- Based on results from the 1999 Worlds, the more recent inconsistent results in World Cup races this summer, and the return of the USA's Olympic Silver medalists who retired after Atlanta, this Olympic event is a real mixed bag to analyze. Robinson and Luke, the 1999 World Champions from Canada, have split World Cup victories with both Australia (3rd at 1999 Worlds) and Romania (6th at 1999 Worlds). Canada has twice defeated Germany (2nd at 1999 Worlds) in World Cup racing. Australia, Canada and Germany have had the most consistent performances at World Cup. Romania has a World Cup 1st place in Lucerne, with a disappointing 5th in between at Vienna. Taylor and Slatter of Australia could be the crew to beat in Sydney, however, unless Romania's victory in Lucerne over everyone else means it has shrugged off its earlier 5th place finish in Vienna.
