As predicted, GER had a lock on this gold medal long before they left their homeland.
The USA made a gallant effort to grab the silver, and held 2nd place for the first 1500
meters over NED (a new combination) and LTU (4th at last year's Worlds). That did not
last, as NED began its move back on the USA in the 3rd 500 (see JAMCO
Replay, 3rd interval, NED turns silver). Both NED and LTU then moved through the USA
in the last 500 to win the silver and bronze medals. The USA finished 4th, followed by ROM
