AUS, the 1999 bronze medalists at Worlds, should barely defeat GER, which was 5th at
Worlds, but has one new member. Both will advance to the FA final. FRA and ROM are
predicted to trade 3rd and 4th places in this race all the way down the course. ROM is the
defending World Champion, and should not get caught up in a race like that here. ROM's
boat has the ROM lightweight single sculler, Alupei, now in the boat with Burcica, so the
combination is not the same as it was at Worlds. This summer at World Cup, ROM had 2
convincing victories and came in here the favorite for the gold medal. ROM did win its
heat here, but was pushed hard by SUI for 1000 meters, so it is hard to figure out what is
going on with ROM now. Still, do not count ROM out, as they are very capable of winning
this race and should be expected to challenge AUS and GER for the victory and the
preferred lane in the FA final. Expect AUS, GER and ROM to advance to the FA final, but in
an uncertain order among them.LANE CREW RELATIVE POSITIONS ELAPSED SPLIT
