Pre-Olympic Summary

August 13, 2000 -- Romania is the clear favorite for the gold in Sydney, coming off its 1999 World Championship and two 1st place finishes in its appearances at this summer's World Cup races. The substitution of Angela Alupei, last year's 5th place single sculler at Worlds, into this year's Romanian double, has not slowed Romania's quest for Olympic gold. The USA, Germany, China, France and Australia should be fighting it out for the silver and bronze medals.
