The prediction for this race was that 5 crews would be within 2 seconds of each other
at the finish line. Well, there were only 4, which was quite enough to make for a
thrilling finish. The pre-regatta pick (see LM4- Main Index Page) was FRA, and FRA lived
up to that expectation today, passing AUS in the last 500 to take the gold medal. AUS held
off fast closing crews from DEN and ITA to save the silver medal. (See the JAMCO Replay for these moves) DEN in turn held off ITA and
matched ITA's last 500 speed to take the bronze medal, a fitting end for their comeback
from early season disaster when they lost Thomas Poulsen to injury, and had their gold
medal expectations dashed. ITA, RSA and USA were 4th, 5th and 6th. Look at the JAMCO Replay for this one.LANE CREW RELATIVE POSITIONS ELAPSED SPLIT
