Pre-Olympic Summary

August 13, 2000 -- Until Thomas Poulsen, Denmark's five-time World Champion in this event, left the boat with injuries earlier this year, Denmark was a cinch for the gold medal in Sydney. Since then, Denmark has struggled in World Cup competition and now has a tough road ahead for any Olympic medal. The new favorite is France (3rd in 1999 Worlds) which has won its two World Cup appearances at Munich and Lucerne. Austria, which finished less than 0.1 seconds behind France in Lucerne, and Canada, the United States, Ireland, Italy and Australia should all be in the Sydney medal hunt for what should be a fantastic final.
