2001 Vienna Rowing World Cup
June 29 - July 1, 2001
Danube River, Vienna, Austria
Women's Single Scull (W1X)
Ekaterina Karsten of Belarus, the reigning World and Olympic Women's
Singles Champion, and the winner of the first two World Cup meetings
this year, has to be considered the favorite in Vienna. A major
challenge may come from Germany's Kathrin Rutschow-Stomporowski,
the Sydney bronze medalist in singles. In the Olympic final last
year (see JAMCO
Race Bulletin), Karsten took a quick length and a half lead
over Rutschow-Stomporowski in the first 500m, only to give it all
up in the middle 1000, to be even with 500m to go. In the last 500m,
Karsten rowed down Neikova of Bulgaria to win in a photofinish,
and gained a half length on Rutschow-Stomporowski who finished third.
In Vienna, if Rutschow-Stomporowski can stay even with Karsten through
the first 500m, the race with 500m to go may pose an even greater
challenge to Karsten.
FISA Biography
Complete World Championships and Olympic records of rowers competing
at the 2001 Vienna World Cup. For each year they competed in the
Olympics or World Championships, that year is shown (e.g. 99 for
1999), followed by the event they were in and where they placed.
For example, "99 4X 4" means the competitor finished Fourth in the
Quadruple Scull event in 1999.
Double asterisks (**) indicate that the competitor has not rowed
in any previous Olympic or World Championship regattas.
An "R" in the results (last) column, means the competitor did
not advance past the Repechage.
